The undoubted highlight of the Northern Hemisphere rugby union season is the Six Nations Championship. Ireland play their first home match against Italy in round one of the 2006 RBS 6 Nations Championship. This will be the first match played in the 2006 RBS 6 Nations Championship so both teams will be eager to start with a win. Italy have never won a match away from home in the 6 Nations Championship so they will be hoping to end their losing streak while Ireland will be keen to show their fans that they can go one step further this year and win the Triple Crown and/or Grand Slam. It will not be a game for the faint hearted and as always the fans will enjoy the traditional Irish craic and will have a memorable weekend in Dublin.
